Chemetall, Milton Keynes. Laboratory fit-out.

Chemetall develops and manufactures tailor-made technology and systems solutions for applied surface technology. We received an enquiry for a fit-out of one of their laboratories in Milton Keynes. Their requirements included the construction of a ground floor laboratory, 1^st floor offices, and a canteen area.

Being a specialised area the fit-out required specific design and build specifications. All the partition walls installed were fire rated FR30 and FR60 and the windows were 30/30 fire rated. Glazed steel framed partition screens, and some steel EI30 screens with doors were also fitted.

We removed areas of suspended ceiling to the first floor to install the fire rated partitions up to abut with the main structure of the building and then reinstated the suspended ceilings once we had completed the partitions walls. We then tape and jointed the walls and followed this by decoration with a clean and bright durable finish.

The specification for all the laboratory doors were fire rated FD30 and FD60 timber framed and paint grade doors which we finished with an undercoat then gloss. All the office and reception doors were an attractive timber frame with a Mocca formica FD30.

To utilise space and create specific workspaces to meet the client’s needs we built three modern EW30 fire rated frameless glass offices on the first floor. These offer light aesthetically pleasing spaces with the benefit of being a private room without feeling separated from the team. Glass partition walls and screens can offer a high acoustic rating, and have the option to be manifested with corporate logos and designs which are both cosmetically appealing and functional.

We installed suspended ceilings to all the laboratories with 24mm white grid and a 600mm x 600mm Knauf Danotile.

Danotile is a high performance hygiene ceiling tile, suitable for rooms with high cleaning and infection control requirements. The white foil covered robust surface tolerates tough cleaning and disinfection agents as well as pH levels from 2-13. As a clean-room certified gypsum ceiling, Danotile is widely used in healthcare facilities and kitchens.
