Leamington Lawn Tennis and Squash Club, Royal Leamington Spa. Suspended ceilings.

We received and enquiry from LLTSC to install a new suspended ceilings in three of their high-quality squash courts. The work was to be carried out in courts 3 and 4, and their newly built court 5.

Due to the nature of the courts being at international competition quality, the suspended ceiling needed to be installed and a height of 5.6 meters from the floor. Extra care was taken to protect the specialised flooring whilst the work was undertaken. Hardboards were laid to prevent any damage from the mobile scaffold towers which were required to install the suspended ceilings, and the footfall of workers and movement of building materials.

We carried out the electrical work for the lighting in two stages. Firstly, we installed the suspended ceiling grid ready for the electrical 1^st fix, then when this was completed, we returned to install the ceiling tiles. As the courts were to be subjected to high impact from squash balls, we clipped all the perimeter tiles into the grid to prevent any possibility of them being dislodged when hit.

We completed the two new squash courts and six months later we were asked to return to replace the existing suspended ceilings and lighting in squash courts 1 and 2. On the usual pre-work inspection we suspected the possibility of asbestos, which was confirmed by laboratory testing and the existing suspended ceilings were removed by a licensed asbestos contractor.

Once the Asbestos was removed and the air quality tests were complete, we were able to carry out the installation of the new suspended ceilings and lighting.  We carried this out with the same approach as before by protecting the squash court floors and building mobile scaffold towers to access the height of the suspended ceiling.

We installed Zentia 24mm white grid system with a 600mm x 600mm TVS Vinyl faced tile. TVS Vinyl Ceiling Tiles are a vinyl-faced gypsum ceiling tile designed for use within a lay-in grid system to form a demountable suspended ceiling. They have a stippled vinyl face which is wipeable, a foil backing, and taped edges to the tile. They are ideal for use in a range of commercial and residential ceiling applications especially when high moisture resistance or light reflectance are required.

• Fire Resistance – TVS Vinyl Ceiling Tiles provide a Class 0 Surface Spread of Flame rating.
• Moisture Resistance – TVS Vinyl Ceiling Tiles offer a much higher water resistance than mineral fibre ceiling tiles, greatly reducing the risk of unsightly staining. They are suitable for use in areas up to 95% RH (Relative Humidity) at a maximum temperature of 30°C.
• Durability – TVS Vinyl Ceiling Tiles are a robust form of tile that offer greater resistance to scratches, dents and damage.
